Special Saturday

image

These children have been working with Bruce Dyer for the last few weeks. Today was a special day for them as he took them to watch Barnsley against Preston. Not only that, look at the fun they had before hand… and how super smart they all look.
Let’s hope they can manage to be lucky mascots for Barnsley too!!

BFC cricket competition at Oakwell

imageFriday 13th March. Today our school cricket team went to Oakwell to take part in a cricket competition hosted by Barnsley Football Club. We competed against 6 other teams throughout the afternoon and were keen to add more winners medals to our recent good performances by all of our school teams over the last couple of terms. We initially played 3 group games and picked up 3 wins including one very impressive performance where we had already won the game after our first pair of batters, due to how well we fielded. After winning all our group games we played against Roystons second team in the semi finals and turned in another great performance and again won comfortably to progress to the final, where we played Roystons first team. Despite Royston combining their best players from their 2 teams in the final, we were still confident of picking up another win and were in to field first. An amazing catch from Eliot Howarth on the boundary to prevent a 6, some great bowling from emma wake, and some fantastic fielding work by Albert and Saba all helped us to keep our opponents total to a beatable score and and we sent jack Mayes and Layton in first to bat, and they set us off on our way to a massive total with some great 4s and 6s. We then had Emma and Bethany batting second and they also recorded and impressive score which brought us within 17 runs off winning with us still having half of our batters to go. Eliot and Albert recorded 5 6s between them off of only 12 bowls to put us comfortably in the lead before Harrison and josh micklethwaitte finished off another comprehensive victory, resulting in us winning the competition, brin

Year 4 multi skills

Our year 4 multi skills team had a touch ask on their hands on Wednesday 11th March, as they had to try to match year 2s earlier success in the Barnsley multi skills finals at the college. Our year 4 team had only previously been to one tournament and did fantastically well to win that one, so we had high expectations and we were confident of doing well. We took part in a variety of events including basketball dribbling, shuttle runs and penalty shoot out, and performed really well on all 10 stations. Out of the 22 teams that took part we managed to finish second, which some found a little disappointing as they wanted to win, but we still knew we did brilliant on the day and we were delighted to receive even more medals and certificates, well done to all involved. image

Year 5/6 netball finals

Tuesday 10th March. Today we competed in the finals of the Barnsley Netball competition due to our success in the qualifying event last week. We came up against some really top teams today but still put in some great performances, despite having to play against the two eventual finalists in our group, we managed to finish 3rd. The children all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and still considered their efforts in a completely new sport to them a success. Well done to all involved.

Year 2 multi skills

On Wednesday 4th, 10 of our Year 2 children went to Barnsley college to take part in a multi skills competition. They had a number of different events to complete including some familiar sporting tasks such as dribbling basketballs, bowling cricket balls and scoring goals in football, there were also some new events that we had not tried before. All 10 children worked terrifically well throughout the afternoon and because of their efforts, we recorded the best overall score out of all 14 teams that took part resulting in us finishing 1st. For winning the competition all 10 children got a badge which they took home and a certificate which will be presented during an assembly later this week.

Well done to everyone involved.

Year 5/6 boys hockey

On Tuesday 24th February 6 of our year 6 boys and 2 of our year 5 boys went to Darton College to take part in the finals of the Barnsley Primary School Hockey Tournament. We competed against 21 other teams and were placed in a qualifying group of 5 other teams, of which we finished top and won all of our games, only conceding 1 goal along the way. Winning our group meant we advanced to the semi finals, unfortunately we came up against he eventual winners of the competition who won the match 2-0, but the boys still did fantastic to reach the semi finals and finish 3rd out of the 21 teams. They have set the challenge to the girls who have their competition on Thursday. Well done boys!imageimageimage
